How to play Jigsaw Puzzles
Put the picture back together. The pieces start in the tray under the board. Each piece fits in only one place, and it stays put once you place it.
- Tap a piece to pick it up, then tap its place on the board. If you pick the wrong place, the piece stays in your hand so you can try again.
- To start with the border, choose "Edge pieces only" to see only the edge pieces.
- "Show picture" puts a faint copy of the painting on the board to guide you.
- Hint picks a good piece, or shows where the piece in your hand goes. "Place it for me" puts it in.
- With a mouse, you can also drag a piece onto the board.
Choose 12, 24, 48 or 96 pieces, and any picture from the list. Your progress is saved on this device for each picture and size. There is no time limit.
Keyboard
Tab moves through the pieces in the tray. Enter picks a piece up and moves you to the board, where the arrow keys move between places and Enter puts the piece down. H shows a hint, Escape puts the piece back, and Ctrl+Z undoes.
Questions
Do I have to drag the pieces?
No. Tap a piece in the tray, then tap where it goes on the board. With a mouse, you can drag it instead.
Where do the pictures come from?
They are public-domain paintings and prints from The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Open Access collection. You'll find the artist's name below each puzzle.
Can I make the pieces bigger?
Choose fewer pieces. 12 or 24 pieces give you the largest shapes. Show picture puts a faint copy of the painting on the board to help.
